Student Service Hours

If you’re reading this, your teacher has likely let you know that you can earn service credit by volunteering with Poplar Creek Prairie Stewards—we’re glad you’re interested!

All participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian unless participating as part of a chaperoned organization or school group approved by PCPS in advance.

Unaccompanied minors are not permitted per Forest Preserve District rules.

Earning Credit

To receive service credit, attend one or more of our regularly scheduled workdays.

  • Workdays begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.
  • They run until approximately 12:00 p.m.
  • Please plan to stay for the entire workday

If you have a service card or other documentation that needs to be signed, bring it with you and we will sign it at the end of the workday.

In addition to your school’s documentation, we encourage you to log your hours on the Forest Preserves website. This helps us quantify our impact and can earn you recognition gear.

Please bring water. All tools, safety equipment, and training for the morning’s activities will be provided.

Dress for Safety

You must be appropriately dressed for outdoor restoration work, which includes closed-toed shoes, long pants and long sleeves. For safety reasons, we reserve the right to turn away anyone who is not properly dressed—and in that case, you will not receive credit for the day.

Be sure to review our What to Wear guidelines before arriving.
