Volunteers at the inaugural Schaumburg Road Grasslands workday

Schaumburg Road Grasslands (SRG) is a project of the Poplar Creek Prairie Stewards. Begun in 2009, this extension of our efforts is on the north side of Schaumburg Road, west of Rte 59. This area of old farm fields surrounded by groves of oak woodlands is home to numerous grassland birds, including Henslow’s Sparrows, Grasshopper Sparrows, and Eastern Meadowlarks. It is being restored to native vegetation, but all management decisions are made with the birds as the number one priority.

Directions to the Schaumburg Road Grasslands (SRG) Site

From Route 59 and Schaumburg Road, go west on Schaumburg Road to the first Forest Preserve entrance on the north (right) side of the road. On scheduled workdays, go to this site only if the workday calendar indicates that the workday is at the SRG Site.
